The story revolves around Peggy, a young girl who moves into a mansion as a live-in babysitter for the wealthy and eccentric Mrs. Elliott. Peggy begins to experience strange occurrences and hears unexplained noises in the house, leading her to believe that the mansion is haunted. She becomes increasingly frightened as her experiences become more and more bizarre, and she starts to believe that Mrs. Elliott is hiding a dark secret. Jeffrey and Peggy have some sort of cosmic artistic bond between them, so this doesn’t bode well for their relationship with the deranged and devious mother. Although this turns out the be essentially a slasher flick, because of the obvious restrictions on graphic violence that come with a prime-time TV production, veteran horror director Gordon Hessler (The Oblong Box, Scream and Scream Again) relies more on atmosphere and suggestion here for the modest fright value the film has. Peggy soon discovers that Mrs. Elliott had a daughter who died in a fire, and the ghost of the deceased girl is now haunting the mansion. Peggy sets out to uncover the truth behind the girl's death and her haunting of the house. However, her investigation soon puts her in danger as she realizes that the people around her are not what they seem. Will Peggy be able to uncover the truth before it's too late, or will she become the next victim of the haunted mansion?
