Set in 1934 Paris, the movie follows the story of Victoria Grant, a struggling soprano who is unable to find work. While trying to make ends meet, Victoria meets Carroll Todd, a gay cabaret performer, who suggests they team up and create a new act. In a desperate attempt to find success, Victoria transforms herself into a male impersonator named Victor, and with the help of Carroll, they create a sensation in the Parisian nightclub scene. As Victor, Victoria becomes a star and captures the attention of a wealthy Chicago gangster named King Marchand. King is fascinated by Victor and is determined to uncover the truth behind this mysterious performer. Confusion ensues as King finds himself attracted to Victor, unaware of Victoria's true identity. Meanwhile, Victoria finds herself falling for King, leading to a complex web of romantic entanglements and mistaken identities. As the lines between reality and illusion blur, the characters grapple with their feelings and the societal norms of gender and sexuality. The story culminates in a series of comical and dramatic revelations, as the characters confront the consequences of their deceptions and ultimately find acceptance and love in unexpected ways.
