In a post-apocalyptic world overrun by giant monsters, Joel Dawson (Dylan O'Brien) is living underground with a group of survivors. After reconnecting with his high school girlfriend, Aimee (Jessica Henwick), who is living in a different colony 80 miles away, Joel decides to embark on a dangerous journey to find her. Despite his lack of survival skills, Joel sets out on the surface, encountering various mutated creatures along the way. During his journey, he befriends a dog and encounters a seasoned traveler, Clyde (Michael Rooker), who teaches him valuable survival skills. Joel's determination and newfound skills help him navigate through the perilous terrain and confront his fears. Along the way, he also learns valuable lessons about love, friendship, and bravery. Eventually, Joel reaches Aimee's colony, where he reunites with her and discovers that the real monsters may not be the creatures on the surface, but the human survivors themselves. Despite the challenges and dangers, Joel's journey ultimately leads to a newfound sense of hope and the possibility of rebuilding a better world.
