In a small town in Ireland in the 17th century, a young girl named Robyn Goodfellowe moves with her father, Bill, who is a hunter, to help in the town's wolf eradication. Robyn is determined to prove herself as a hunter, but her father warns her to stay within the town's walls for her safety. Despite her father's warnings, Robyn sneaks into the forest with her pet falcon, Merlin, where she encounters a mysterious girl named Mebh, who is a Wolfwalker, with the ability to transform into a wolf when she sleeps. Mebh and her mother, Moll, are on a mission to protect the wolves and their forest from the hunters. Mebh's spirit often roams freely as a wolf, while her body remains asleep. Robyn and Mebh form an unlikely friendship, and Robyn discovers that she, too, has the ability to transform into a wolfwalker while she sleeps. As Robyn spends more time with Mebh and the wolves, she begins to question her father's beliefs and the town's fear of the wolves. When the Lord Protector, a fanatical hunter, arrives in the town with plans to completely eradicate the wolves, Robyn and Mebh must work together to save the wolves and the forest. With the help of the wolfwalkers, Robyn and Mebh lead an epic battle to protect their home and the creatures they love. In the end, Robyn's determination and bravery not only save the wolves but also bring about a new understanding and harmony between the townspeople and the natural world.
