Despite the horrors she experiences, Edith manages to survive and eventually becomes a kapo, a prisoner forced to oversee other inmates. As a kapo, Edith grapples with the moral dilemmas of collaborating with the Nazis in order to ensure her own survival. She forms a complex bond with another prisoner, Terrence, who is a member of the French Resistance. Together, they navigate the brutal and dehumanizing conditions of the camp, all the while secretly planning an escape.
