Minari is a heartwarming drama that follows the story of a Korean-American family who moves to a farm in Arkansas in search of the American Dream. The family consists of Jacob, the father who is determined to make a success of the farm, Monica, the mother who is initially skeptical of their new rural life, their daughter Anne, and their son David who has a heart condition. As they settle into their new home, they face numerous challenges including financial struggles, cultural differences, and the strain it puts on their family relationships. Jacob is determined to grow Korean fruits and vegetables to sell to the burgeoning Korean immigrant population in the area, but he faces an uphill battle as the farm's success is constantly threatened by the harsh climate and the lack of water. To help with the children, Monica invites her mother, Soon-ja, to come and live with them. Soon-ja's arrival brings a mix of tension and warmth to the family dynamics, as she bonds with David and introduces him to traditional Korean customs, much to the disapproval of his father. As the family grapples with their own individual dreams and struggles, they also learn to find strength and unity in the face of adversity. The film beautifully captures the immigrant experience, the complexities of family dynamics, and the enduring resilience of the human spirit. It is a poignant and heartfelt portrayal of the pursuit of happiness and the strength of familial bonds in the face of life's challenges.
